Jaguar E Type Series 1 4.2 2+2 Restoration
This Jaguar was purchased to restore with the normal rusty sills, floor pans and various other parts of the shell. In my view the series 1 E Types are the best looking of the range and although the 2+2 divided opinion among the enthusiasts I like the versatility of being able to carry another passenger in the rear if needed and two small ones at a push. My father restored a 3.8 S1 FHC in the ’70s and I remember being taken for a sprint up the M4 out of Newbury with my younger brother and myself folded into the rear loading deck. Health and safety wasn’t high on the ‘To Do’ list as Dad tested the car towards its limit. Rear seat belts? No, but it did leave a lasting memory and no real damage.
Anyway, back to this one, bodywork has been stripped to the shell, dipped to remove all paint, sealer, filler and rust which left a surprisingly solid structure. A lengthy full restoration of the body followed to include new floor pans, inner and outer sills with some improved strengthening to protect against side impact, Full pictures taken at every stage to record the process.
